Golfers at Stanthorpe played a stroke event on Saturday 13 April, the day sponsored by members Kay Webb, Linda Kelly and Lorraine Evans and we thank them for the day. The course was in good shape and the weather was kind to the players on the day.

The ladies’ event was won by Mei Bell with a nett 73 which was 4 shots clear of the field. Mei’s form had been a bit patchy in the last couple of rounds so she would have been happy with a reversal of scores. Runner up went to Neta Thouard on nett 77 and just beating the rest. Kay Webb and Lorraine Evans completed the prize list in the ladies run down with a nett of 78 and 79 respectively.

The men’s event was a close finish in the end, the winner being John Green on nett 70. Two players on nett 71 with the count back in favour of club captain, Brad Silver, leaving Ivan Juriss to pick up on the run down. Also in the run down were Santo Cavallaro (72), Chris Binge (72), Matt Waterworth (72), Eric Ree (73) and Tom Page (73).

Pin shots for the men went to Mike McAuliffe on 3, Ivan Juriss at 12 and Tom Page at 17. Second shot approaches won by David Burgess at 1/10 and 5/14 and Wes Smith at 9/18. For the ladies, Nikki Waterworth collected for NTP 12 and Lisa Stuart likewise at 17. Mandy Benussi held the best approach for the ladies at 2/11.

For the next three competition Saturdays, 4BBB stablefords are scheduled with the third being Saturday 4 May when the Kilcoy players visit Stanthorpe. The following day is the Black Toyota 3 person ambrose. Usually, this weekend attracts a large field and intending players should nominate ASAP,

The Mobile Golf Shop will also be in attendance on this weekend, so a good chance for members and social golfers to stock up on their golf needs. Last time they were at the club, their service was excellent as they carry a good range of products for the golfer. Any special orders can be made by contacting them direct prior to the weekend, their contact number is on display at the club house. They will also be visiting later in the year when the club holds their open day.

Next Saturday 20 April is the first of the three 4BBB stableford events, sponsors for the day are John Green and Brendan McMillan. Not quite the end of the month but play will start with a shot gun start at 12 noon with registration by 11.30 am. Time sheet is available on line.

Sporters golf

A small crowd for the Sporters 9 hole Sunday 14 April morning event with some confusion over starting time so as not to clash with the pennants players on the day. All worked out in the end with Sporters starting the back nine at hole 15.

A good result for Terry Byrnes, back in the winner’s circle with a nett 28, the low score for the day. His round was steady, easy bogies at most holes and not having any big numbers on his card. John Rawlings was next best, runner up on nett 32. Again, mostly a steady round but a couple of big scores on two holes which did him no favours.

Dick Hilton featured in the run down with his nett 35, not his usual result but we all have off days now and then. As per the norm, Paul Armstrong again produced the low gross score for the day, 41 for the back nine to take the prize on offer. No takers for the pin shot at three.

Next Sunday, the front nine will be in play and as the pennants team will be playing away, tee off time will be back to usual, 8.00 am.
