The first Saturday of the month, April 6, was the monthly medal and putting competition for golfers at Stanthorpe. The day was sponsored by club member, Richard Reardon, and we thank him for the prizes on the day. Overcast conditions and showers put a damper on the day, especially for the early players, but the afternoon was relatively dry. The wet fairways meant not a lot of run for competitors.
The conditions did not deter Brendon Barker who returned not only the best nett score of 70, but also the best gross score of 71 on the day. Playing off a handicap of just 1, this was a great effort. Best putting for the men’s comp came from Wes Smith needing 26 putts for the round.
Runner up went to Darrell Boekholt who was one shot back on nett 71. Featuring in the run down with a score of nett 73 were Sam Hyne (Nudgee GC), Wes Smith, Ivan Juriss and Scott Constable.
The ladies medal was won by Neta Thouard after a count back with Lyn Ludlow, both with nett 78. Compensation for Lyn who collected runner up as well as best putting for the ladies on the day. Mei Bell and Lisa Stuart were not far behind with Lisa also having best gross score for the ladies.
Men’s NTPs went to Barry Hughes at 3, Wes Smith at 12 and Ivan Juriss at 17. Pro-pins claimed by Keith Jones at 1/10, Ivan Juriss at 5/14 and Michael Thompson at 9/18. Ladies’ NTPs were won by Neta Thouard (3 and 12) and Lisa Stuart at 17. Pro-pins to the same pair, Neta at 2/11 and Lisa at 7/16.
The men’s match play series is progressing steadily with just a few remaining to complete the first round. Players should write on the draw sheet the result of their matches and arrange with next competitors a suitable playing time.
Members should have received the latest Captain’s Report and note that the visit from Kilcoy players and the Black Toyota ambrose event is getting close. Usually both days attract a good field and players should be thinking of arranging partners and teams for both events.
Next Saturday’s event is another stroke event sponsored by lady members, Kay Webb, Linda Kelly and Margie Locke. Time sheet again is online and ready to be fllled.
