A strong field of 62 golfers played in the Stableford competition on Saturday the 17th of October.

Visitors from Brisbane, Rosewood and Gailes and locals braved the windy and showery Scottish-like weather which made golfing very difficult. It was good to catch up with former member Matt Burgess who visited from Mt Warren Park. Recent rain has helped to green up the course but there is still lots of run out there. The competition was generously sponsored by Neta Thouard and Larraine Gurnett, and we thank them for their sponsorship. Extra incentive was provided by our sponsors with every chip winning a square on the 300 board.

The Men’s winner who clearly enjoys playing in windy conditions, showed a lot of skill to produce an excellent score of 39 points was Ritchie Reardon. Coming in second place with a very commendable 38 points was big hitting Jason Bacon. The run down went to Michael Thompson, Greg Tibbs (The SGA GC), Barry Hughes, Jason Lawer, Chook Hendry and Lyle Bryant. Despite the difficult conditions some excellent shots were produced to win the Men’s pin shots with Michael Thompson on 3 and 17 and Barry Hughes on 12. Some great approaches were won by Matt Waterworth (1/10), Keith Jones

(5/14) and Greg Tibbs (9/18).

The Ladies event was very tightly contested with the eventual winner on a countback being Filomena Silver with an excellent 36 points. Coming in second and third places and also on 36 points was Lisa Stuart and Nikki Waterworth. Filomena had a good day by also taking the pin shots on 12 and 17 with some great shots and Trish Fittock and Helen Jones winning the Approach shots on 2/11 and 7/16 respectively.

Congratulations to all our winners and to everyone who participated in the day. Next weekend is the annual Stanthorpe Open with a 4BBB on Saturday and a Stroke for Men and a Stableford for Ladies on Sunday. The weekend is sponsored by City GC, Tenterfield GC, Toowoomba GC and Stanthorpe GC with Ballandean Pub and Luxury Home Living also providing sponsorship on Sunday. Hopefully the weather will be better by then.
