Stanthorpe golfers played a 4BBB stableford on Saturday 27 April, the day sponsored by the Stanthorpe RSL Sub-Branch. Thanks to Tom Page for representing the Sub-Branch and giving a brief outline of what the Sub-Branch are able to do. Tom also presented the winners with their trophies.
Best score for the day came from the team of Richard Reardon and Alan Kerr with 44 points. Richard was the mainstay for the team but when needed, Alan had some useful additions to the total. Both players were very happy with how well they combined on the day.
Runner up was the team of Brad Silver and Filomena Silver, only a short distance away on 42 points. Coming off a win the previous week, this was a good effort to back up from then. Filomena had the team on track for the front nine with Brad taking over for the back nine.
Featuring in the run down was the team of Max Hunter and Trevor Wren with 41 points and holding out a number of teams on the same score after the count back came into effect.
Nikki Waterworth collected for her pin shot at 12 and Lorraine Evans had the best approach for the ladies at 2/11. Matt Waterworth collected NTPs at the men’s 3 and 12 and Richard Walker claimed for the pin shot at 17. Approaches were won by Matt Burgess at 1/10, Alan Kerr at 5/14 and Richard Reardon at 9/18.
Best shot of the day can be awarded to Matt Burgess for recording an eagle at the first hole. On for two and a good roll which went straight to the hole, a good start to the round.
The Stanthorpe pennants team hosted Texas GC on Sunday 28 April and were able to record a good win, 4 ½ to ½.
Next weekend, Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 May is full of golf with a 4BBB stableford on Saturday and sponsored by the Kilcoy players, Jeff and Biz Ihle and Sunday being the Warwick Black Toyota 3 person ambrose, thanks to Rob Reeves. There may be a few spots left for the Saturday stableford but the Sunday ambrose is just about at capacity numbers. On line for bookings for Saturday but need to go to the club to nominate for the ambrose.
Stanthorpe Sporters golf
Very small number for Stanthorpe Sporters golfers on Sunday 28 April, but those who turned up were very competitive. The front nine was in play and commenced on the 6th tee with pennants matches taking over on tee 1.
With so few players, the decision was made to award a first place and a runner up only. Taking top honours was Aaron Simmers with a nett score of 24. Runner up went to Matt Waterworth on nett 31 after he posted a gross score of one over par, 37 for the nine holes which included birdies at the third and fourth holes. Very impressive.
No pin shot on the day but as it happened, four out of five players landed on the green all in close proximity of the hole. Someone forgot to measure to see who was closest, but there was only one bogie on the hole, the rest par or birdie.
Sporters will not be playing next Sunday 5 May with the course being used for the Black Toyota ambrose on that day. Sporters resume on Sunday 12 May at 8.00 am.
