The last medal match of the season was played last Saturday, finalising the qualifiers for the Medal of Medallists which will be played in November with all previous medal winners over the last year eligible to compete. Sponsoring the day were club members, Rino Piovesan and Ian Harvey whom we thank very much for the day.
As well as club members, three visitors were welcomed for the day’s play, David Parkes from Ocean Shores, Ian Smith for Prospect Vale and Liz Parks from Mullimbimby Golf Club.
Joining the men’s list of qualifiers is Alan Kerr after a round of 79 off the stick for a nett 68 to win the day. Often referred to for his accuracy on the par 3s, he extended that to the rest of the round and the back nine particularly, coming in with 38 shots.
Club captain, Brendon Barker, also had a good round going but ended up two shots back for runner up. However, Brendon did have the lowest gross round of 70 as well as least number of putts for the men, needing 26 putts for the round.
In the run down, Jason Bacon (70), Tod Beckett (71), Davis Burgess (71) and Ian Harvey (71) collected a ball for their effort.
The ladies’ winner was Fiona Kelly with a nett 72 for a one shot win. Being on holiday in the north must have helped, missing the real cold weather of Stanthorpe. Margie Locke collected runner up prize with a nett 72 as well as the lowest ladies’ gross score of 95. Kay Webb demonstrated her prowess on the greens by winning the ladies’ putting competition with 26 putts. Completing the ladies winners were Lorraine Evans and Kay Webb with a run down each.
Next weekend is the mixed Foursomes championships and good to see that a competitive field has already been nominated. Other intending players are most welcome to play but will need to arrange partners. Play is on Sunday 11 Oct and starting at 9.30 am after Sporters.
Next Saturday is an individual stableford and sponsored by Todd Wilshire of Wilshire & Co. Time sheet is available at the club and tee off from 11.30 am.
