Stanthorpe golfers played the end of month medley stableford last Saturday, the day sponsored by Jamworks Gourmet Foods and the club thanks them for the trophies on the day. Also, thanks to Christine for entering into the day’s event.

Although the weather for the day was slightly better than recent days, still a fairly cold day with the wind making shot making interesting. Recent frosts through the area ensured the greens were slick, quite a few players hitting through the greens.

With three teams returning the best score of 41 points on the day, the count back was in action to find a winner. With a margin of one point, the team of Scott Constable and Bruce Green were awarded the win with Santo Cavallaro and Greg Fraser claiming runner up prize. Both teams leaving with some tasty items from Jamworks.

The other team on 41 points, Marie Cook and Kay Webb, had to settle for mention in the run down. Happily, both players scored on pin shots and pro-pins with Marie collecting the ladies pin at 3 as well as the pro-pin at 5/14 and Kay successful winning the pin at 12. At least some compensation for missing out on the count back. Also in the run down was the team Ricky Chapman and Lisa Stuart, with Lisa also collecting the ladies pin at 17.

David Gianini, visiting from Tenterfield GC, collected the men’s pins at 3 and 12 and Barry Hughes held the 17th pin. Other pro-pins were claimed by Matt Waterworth at 1/10 and Greg Steele at 9/18.

It was unfortunate that several teams were disqualified due to errors in score cards, either unsigned or incorrect information recorded. Once the score cards have been handed in, they cannot be altered so both players and markers should check with one another that what has been done is correct.

Next Saturday is the September monthly medal, a stroke event and putting competition. Sponsors for the day are Fiona Kelly and Mark Baker, whom the club welcomes back from their lengthy caravan vacation. The ladies will also be playing to qualify for the Ladies’ Captain match play.

Tee off from 11.00 am and the time sheet is on the board at the club.
