Golfers at Stanthorpe played a single stableford event Saturday 17 June, the winners earning the right to have their name engraved on the Finch Cup. Appreciation to Eric and Shaneen McLellan for sponsoring the day.

Best score for the men’s event was from Brendon Barker with a score of 38 points after a solid round. His back nine was the best, par 36 for that nine holes and carding 19 points on both nines. Runner up was club captain, Brad Silver who was one point away on 37. His front nine was very productive recording 22 points on the outward journey. The back nine realized a couple of unneeded double bogies at the par fives, only 15 points recorded.

The ladies event was won by Margie Locke who braved the early morning chill to return 35 points for the round. A very steady front nine with 16 points recorded but a much better back nine for 19 points for her total. Only one point back was Helen Jones who collected runner up for the ladies. A solid front nine of 18 points but a couple of missed opportunities on the back nine which added another 16 points to the total.

Men’s pin shots were won by Brad Silver at 3, Scott Constable at 12 and Barry Jones at 17. No takers again for the ladies’ pin at 3 and the ladies’ winner Margie Locke collected the remaing two at 12 and 17. Keith Jones collected the pro-pin at 1/10, Eric Ree at 5/14 and Mark McCosker at 9/18. The birdies nest at 16 was collected by Ray Adams with a three at the par four.

The run down for the men went to Angelo Maugeri (36) Tod Beckett (35) and Scott Constable (35) and for the ladies, Kay Webb with 33 points.

Next Saturday is the last Saturday event of the month and a medley 4BBB stableford is on the programme. Sponsor for the day is Peter Patti Painting. The event will start with a shot gun start and players are requested to be on time, register by 11.30 am and hopefully a start prior to the 12 noon designated time and miss the cold afernoon that is expected.
