A stableford event was played at Stanthorpe last Saturday, kindly sponsored by club members, Lorraine Evans and Madeline Jarman and we thank them for the day.
Best score in the ladies event was 34 points which was from one of the sponsors, Lorraine Evans. Lorraine excused herself from accepting the winners prize, instead passing it down to the next best score. Nikki Waterworth was the lucky recipient after a countback with Helen Jones, both players on 32 points, Helen collecting runner up.
It took until the final group finished to find a winner in the men’s event, with Eric Ree having a good round of 40 points to take first place. Eric’s back nine of 23 points secured the win on the day.
Two players on 37 points with the countback going in favour of Len Leigh, the other, Aaron Simmers, settling for the run down.
Pin shots were won by Aaron Simmers at 3, Mark Hendry at 12 and Keith Barnett at 17. Ladies pins went to Lyn Ludlow at 12 and Lisa Stuart at 17. Pro-pins won by David Reeves at 1/10, Matt Waterworth at 5/14 and Scott Constable at 9/18. Birdies nest claimed by Mick O’Brien at the 9th hole.
In the run down, a ball to Alan Kerr, Rino Piovesan, Mei Bell and Lorraine Evans.
The lady golfers held a ‘come and try’ day last Sunday, first of three days, a pleasing number of ladies and girls attended. The plan is to have another two Sundays so if there are any ladies and girls who would like to come along, they are most welcome. Ring the club for information.
The open day nomination sheet for the ‘Hello Yellow Charity Golf Day’ on Sunday 29 August, sponsored by the Stanthorpe Community Bank is starting to fill. Money raised on the day is going to a very worthy cause, the Stanthorpe Cancer Support Group. The event is a 3 ball Ambrose, teams of 3 players and lots of prizes for the winning teams and novelty events on the day. Regular and Social golfers are encouraged to get a team of three and nominate for the day.
Next Saturday is an individual stableford sponsored by club member, Ian Pickering. Tee off from 11.00 am and the time sheet is on the board.
