The wind was up for last Saturday's stableford event at Stanthorpe, most players rugged up in order to keep warm. A few determined that it was too cold out on the fairways and better to keep the wood fire company in the clubhouse. Majority braved the conditions and completed the round.
Left handers came into prominence on the day with lefties winning both the men's and the ladies' events. Standing on the wrong side of the ball has advantages. Club captain, Richard Reardon, took the honours for the men and Lorraine Evans, another leftie, took the honours for the ladies.
Runners up were Aaron Simmers in the men's event and Margie Locke in the ladies event, both players were one point away for the winning score.
Appreciation to the sponsor on the day, Reece Plumbing, who have been sponsoring a golf day in Stanthorpe for a good number of years now.
The windy weather also made pin shots difficult to win with Max Hunter being the only taker of a pin at 3 for the men. Ladies fared better with approach shots at 12 to Annelle Batterham and Neta Thouard at 17. Matt Waterworth collected the balls on offer for pro-pins at 5/14 and 9/18 as well as claiming the birdies nest at 18. The remaining pro-pin at 1/10 went to Rod Werner.
In the run down, a ball to Mark McCosker (37), Matt Waterworth (36), Mark Hendry (36). Angelo Maugeri (36) and Neta Thouard for the ladies.
Next Saturday is a single stroke event sponsored by greenkeeper, Bill Pyne. Tee off from 11.00 am, time sheet is on the board and hopefully not such a windy day.
