The July monthly medal and putting competition was held last Saturday, with a number of players being wary about the possibilty of rain. All was fine in the end and the day's event began.
Best score in for the men's medal was from Mick O'Brien with nett 73 and he now qualifies for the Medal of Medallists later in the year. Thanks to Mick who was also the sponsor for the day. He declined accepting his own prize of the day and passed the honours down the line. Lucky recipient was Mark Hendry with nett 74 and runner up to Bill Pyne on a count back.
The ladies event was won by Kay Webb with the lowest nett score. Kay also returned the best gross score for the ladies. Runner up went to Shaneen McLellan. Trish Fittock had least putts for the ladies, 31 for the round. Trish also collected the ticket for nearest approach at 17 and Nikki Waterworth collected a ball in the ladies run up.
Lowest gross score of 78 for the men went to Matt Waterworth and he also won the Dale Mullins Trophy for this year. Putting honours were shared with Scott Constable, Bill Pyne, Mark Hendry and Matt Waterworth all requiring 28 putts for the round.
Pin shots went to Matt Waterworth at 3, Simon Shannon at 12 and Mark McCosker at 17. Richard Reardon collected the pro-pin at 1/10 and Tod Beckett at 5/14. Matt Waterworth and Kev Rowling featured in the run down.
Scores for the day were slightly higher than usual, possibly because of the cold day. An interesting observation of the scores indicated that all the men, except for one, had better back nine scores than front nine. Ladies were the opposite with all, except for one, having a higher back nine score than the front nine. Players will know which nine to work at next time.
Next Saturday is a single stableford and our sponsor for the day is Reece Plumbing. The event is scheduled to be played over 18 holes and tee off from 11.00 am. The time sheet is on the board at the club and members are asked to put their name on the sheet to assist with catering arrangements.
