Results 21st June, 2025

Winter is the perfect time to play golf … so is Spring, Summer and Autumn! And Saturday being the shortest day of the year was no exception. The invigorating outdoors made many golfers reflect on being indoors, and by the fire. The Day’s play was sponsored by Michael O’Brien. Many thanks to Michael for his generosity to the club in awarding the prizes. Michael had the pleasure of awarding the Finch Trophy. The Finch Family were jewellers in Stanthorpe from around the 1960’s. They are still remembered and appreciated via the splendid men’s and women’s trophies.

Congratulations to the Lady Golfers, the winner was Mandy Benussi, her name immortalised on the Finch Trophy. The Runner Up was Lisa Stuart. Run Downs went to Lorraine Evans and Neta Thouard. Ladies Hole and Pin shots to Mandy Benussi (x3), Helen Jones, and Lorraine Evans.

Congratulations to the Men Golfers, the winner was Matthew Waterworth and Matt’s name added to the men’s Finch Trophy. The Runner Up was Harry Day (more later). Run Downs went to Darrell Boekholt, Jarrod Irwin, Eric Ree, Ian Pickering, Bruce Green and Levi Fittock. Men’s Hole and Pint shots to Scott Constable, Matt Waterworth (x2) Harry Day, Rick Goodrich and Darrell Boekholt.

It was splendid to see young Levi Fittock at the Club following in family footsteps (literally). At the Presentation former Club members Mark and Fiona Baker were welcomed back. We still miss them. There were also at least two Match Plays piggy backed on the Day’s Play. Congratulations to Phil Mihulka and Len Leigh. A particular note and welcome to Harry Day one of our Country Members. ‘Hard Hitting Harry’ (HHH) works at a Driving Range in north Brisbane and has perfected the art of launching the ball beyond mortal man’s ability to see it. It was truly an impressive display of golf and was the complete antithesis of his playing partner - yours truly!
