The last Saturday in June, the 24th, meant a medley 4BBB stableford for golfers at Stanthorpe. The day was sponsored by Peter Patti Painting and thanks to Peter for putting on the day. The early morning frost was apparent and kept the early morning players numbers to a minimum. The afternoon players enjoyed the milder weather although a cool breeze started towards the end of the day.
In a close finish to the day, the team of Kev Rowling and Rod Werner proved successful and enjoyed a one point win for the day, 45 points on the card. Major contributor to the score was Werner and no doubt the handicapper will be scrutinising his round. Runner up on 44 points was club captain, Brad Silver, and Filomena Silver, both players adding some good points to their overall score.
Pin shots on the day were won by Ivan Juriss at 3, Mark Hendry at 12 and Aaron Simmers at 17. Helen Jones was the only lady to win a pin, she had best approach at 12. Pro-pins went to Andy Burgess at 1/10, Jarrod Irwin at 5/14 and Peter Patti at 9/18. The birdies nest at 16 was unclaimed. In the run down, Jarrod Irwin and Brent Irwin (43 points) and Barry Jones and Tod Beckett (43 points) collected a voucher at the end of the day.
Disappointing at the end of the day that the winners were not able to be present to receive their prizes. Being a shot gun start for the afternoon session, the presentation is usually fairly soon after close of play. Luckily, the runner-up team was in attendance and were quite happy to stand in and collect for their day’s play.
A change to the programme for next Saturday which is the first Saturday of the new month and normally would be a medal event. The day is an individual stableford sponsored by Reece Plumbing and we are informed that Tom Fittock will have some impact on the day. Tee off times for the afternoon session start at 11.00 am and the time sheet is on the board at the club.
