Stanthorpe golfers played their final competition just before Xmas celebrations, the event being a 4BBB stableford sponsored by the group referred to as ‘Dad’s Army’, aka Lyle Bryant, Angelo Maugeri, Barry Hughes and Aaron Simmers. The club thanks them for the prizes on the day. A good field of 48 players turned out for the day.
The end result was that Silver got the gold, Brad Silver and Filomena Silver returning a score of 47 points to be winners of the day. Good to see Brad returning to some good form and Filomena chipping in with good entries on the card. New golf cart proved successful.
Runner up after a countback went to Matt Burgess and Barry Jones with a score of 43 points. Both players are capable of hitting long shots but Matt picked the wrong hole at 10 to duff his drive, although it did go 50 metres.
Unlucky in the count back was the team of Mark Richards and Rod Paye, also on 43 points and they along with Gary Kirby and Ivan Juriss on 42 points settled for the run down.
Pin shots for the men on the day were won by Matt Burgess at 3, Brad Silver at 12 and Hamish Adam at 17. Pro-pins were claimed by Jarrod Irwin at 1/10, Hamish Adam at 5/14 and Kev Rowling at 9/18. Ladies’ pins won by Neta Thouard at 17 and Lisa Stuart at 12, Lisa also collecting the ladies approach at hole 5.
The shotgun start for the day resulted in a good crowd in the club house for the presentation and the raffle draw at the end was well supported. Perhaps some shotgun starts for single events might be considered.
Next Saturday 30 December is the final competition for the year of 2023 and the event is another 4BBB stableford with a shot gun start at 12 noon. The information supplied is that the day will be sponsored by the ‘Hogmanay Howlers’ McAuliffe, McBarnett and McFraser. Time sheet again on line for the final competition of the year.
