The first competition day on New Year’s day at Stanthorpe golf was a 2 person ambrose event which attracted a good field including some who appeared to have celebrated a bit the evening before, especially as an early 9.30 am start was set. Thanks to Alex Vale for sponsoring the day, unfortunately Alex could not attend due to difficulties in travelling.

A late arrangement proved a winning arrangement for Tod Beckett and Michael Thompson who coasted to an easy win on the day after they were the only team who had a gross score under par. Three birdies on their back nine were recorded, 69 for the round.

Bruce Green and Darryl Boekholt had the next best score for runner up with a nett 68 followd by Len Leigh and Neta Thouard who were a half point away for third place.

Len Leigh also collected the men’s pin shot at three and Lisa Stuart did likewise for the ladies. Michael Thompson also collected two pro-pins, 1/10 and 9/18 with the other at 9/18 claimed by Bruce Green.

In the run down, a ball to Gary Kirby, Damien Anderson, Mark McCosker and Mick O’Btien. Special award of using most of the fairways went to the ladies’ team of Shaneen McLellan and Fiona Kelly, although to be fair, the course is playing very difficult right now for the ladies with very grassy fairways.

Next Saturday is the January monthly medal and putting competition and in conjunction, the first of two rounds for the Foundation Cup. Our sponsor for the day is club member, Max Hunter. Time sheet is on the board with tee off from 11.30 am for the afternoon session.
