Apple & Grape festivities got underway at Stanthorpe Golf last Saturday with play for the Apple & Grape cups. The event was sponsored by the Festival committee and particular thanks to them and to their president, Max Hunter, who was on hand to present the trophies.
Brendon Barker was in the spirit of the festival and had his own festival when he returned a nett 67 for the round, three shots ahead of the field. Brendon’s round was 2 shots under par on the day. In second place was Mark Hendry after a countback which left Aaron Simmers to claim the run down prize. Both players had nett 70.
Sandra Morris also enjoyed her day on the course, a nett 69 and five shots clear of the field to win the ladies cup. Runner up went to Helen Jones with nett 74 and first run down claimed by Neta Thouard with nett 77.
After main prizes were allocated, best gross scores were won by Matt Waterworth (75) in the men’s event and Nikki Waterworth in the ladies’ event with 92 for the round.
Pin shots were claimed by Scott Constable at 12 and Matt Burgess at 17. Lyn Ludlow collected the ladies pin at 3 and Nikki Waterworth held both approaches, 12 and 17. Mark Hendry collected pro-pins at 1/10 and 5/14 with Matt Waterworth successful at 9/18. Ron Batterham and Scott Constable shared the birdies’ nest at 12.
There is no golf competition next Saturday when the Apple & Grape festival will be in full swing. Friday 6 March is the Apple & Grape 2 ball ambrose. This event is sponsored by Crisp Coaches and will be a shot gun start at 9.00am. Players are required to be in attendance by 8.30 am so play can get underway at the proper time. The time sheet for this event is at the clubhouse and intending players should note it is a team’s event, a playing partner is required.
