A stableford event was on the programme for Stanthorpe golfers last Saturday, April 8, the day sponsored by club member, Simon Shannon who travelled from Brisbane to be in attendance on the day. Thanks to Simon for the day, it was appreciated by all. A good field of local players plus a number of visitors for the Easter break turned up, not too worried by the rather strong breeze that blew throughout the day.
Scores were again either very good or ‘could do better’ but the early morning players seemed to have the better of the day with the men’s winner, David Burgess being one of the am players. His 40 points for the round was best by two points over the rest. Runner up went to Mark McCosker with 38 points, although he had to wait for the count back to claim the spot.
The ladies found the going tough, with the wind and slow fairways making scoring difficult. Best on the day was Lisa Stuart with 30 points, just ahead of Margie Locke who settled for runner up on 28 points. Both players also collected pin shots, Margie had best approach at 12 and Lisa likewise at 17.
Men’s pin shots were claimed by Mark McCosker at 3, Nathan Stibbard at 12 and Alex Vale successful at 17. Pro-pins were won by Trevor Wren, a good second shot at 1/10 and the Burgess family winning the rest. Andy at 5/14 and David at 9/18. The birdies nest at hole 3, a par three hole, was not claimed.
In the run down, scores of 36 and better were rewarded with Nathan Eccles from City Golf on 38 points, Hamish Adam (37), Brendan McMillan (36) Andy Burgess (36) and Anthony Puglisi (Bundaberg) on 36 all receiving a voucher.
Next Saturday (15 April) is another single stableford, this day to be sponsored by Go Vita Stanthorpe, thanks to John Byliki. Last year’s Go Vita golf day was a huge success and all who played enjoyed the day. Hopefully another good field for this day also. The time sheet is on the board at the club. See all on the fairways next Saturday.
