The August monthly medal and putting competition was played last Saturday at Stanthorpe, an individual stroke event and another chance to qualify for the end of year Medallists final. Thanks to Stanthorpe Newsagency for again sponsoring golf at the club.

Alan Kerr had the best score for the men, a nett 68, four clear of the field. Alan’s accuracy at the par 3 holes is well known and he applied this to the rest of his game to have a winning round.

Runner up went to Aaron Simmers with a score of nett 72. Best gross score was from Scott Constable, 79 on the day. Putting honours were shared by Cal Smith, Ian Harvey and Mark McCosker with 27 putts for the round.

The ladies’ medal event was won by Nikki Waterworth, a return to form, with nett 77. Nikki also recorded the best gross score for the ladies, 96 for the round. Lisa Stuart continued to feature in the placings and her nett 79 gave her runner up. Lyn Ludlow showed her prowess with the putter winning the ladies putting contest with 30 putts for the round.

Men's pin shots won by Alan Kerr at 3, Rob Reeves at 12 and Rod Werner at 17. Ladies' pins went to Mei Bell at 12 and Nikki Waterworth at 17. Pro-pins won by Mark Hendry at 1/10, David Reeves at 5/14 and Wes Smith at 9/18.

In upcoming events, Sunday 29 August, the club is hosting the ‘Hello Yellow Charity Golf Day’, a 3 Ball Ambrose event and open to club members, social players and visitors to come along and play, no handicap necessary.

The day is being sponsored by the Stanthorpe Community Bank with the benefit going to the Stanthorpe Cancer Support Group. The bank’s mascot, ‘Yellow Pig’ will make an appearance during the day.

There will be plenty of activity on the day, prizes for winners, all male team, all female team and mixed team. With the theme of ‘Yellow’ on the day, best dressed player, teams and decorated buggy in line for awards plus novelty events at par 3’s and accuracy drives and raffles. Lunch will be included in the day’s fee with Stanthorpe Rotary doing the honours.

The day should be a fun day and golfers are encouraged to get a team of three players and nominate for the event and to support a very worthy cause.

For members, next Saturday is an individual stableford sponsored by club members, Madeline Jarman and Lorraine Evans. Time sheet is on the board with tee off from 11.00 am.
