It was monthly medal time for Stanthorpe golfers, the first Saturday of March and the chance to qualfy for the Medal of Medallists later in he year. In addition, the day was also the first round for the club’s Pike Trophy. This event is played over three stroke rounds with the best two rounds to be in contention. Previous years competitions for this event have shown that a good round initially is very productive. The club thanks the sponsor for the day, Tod Beckett, for supplying the prizes on the day.

For the medal round, Nat Marano had one of his best rounds since becoming a member, returning a score of 91 for a nett score of 66 to claim the win on the day. He had a very steady 18 holes, 45 strokes out and 46 back home for the day. Richard Reardon also had a very good round and his nett 68 would have been good enough to win on other days. He settled for runner up.

Best gross score honours went to Matt Waterworth with an excellent 74 for the round. Putting honours went to the day’s runner up, Richard Reardon who needed 24 putts for the round.

The ladies medal day was claimed again by Christine Hood, not only taking the nett event with 72 but also the gross with a score of 88. Runner up to Nikki Waterworth, two shots back on nett 74. Ladies putting honours claimed also by Nikki, 30 for the round.

Pin shots were shared around with Santo Cavallaro, Keith Jones, Alan Kerr, Christine Hood and Linda Kelly picking up vouchers for NTP’s. Pro-pins claimed by Matt aterworth at 1/10, Scott Constable at 5/14 and Darryl Boekholt at 9/18. Birdies nest at No. 1 was not claimed.

In the run down, score of nett 73 and better for the men and nett 83 and better for the ladies ere paid out.

Upcoming events at the club include Builders Day this Friday 10 March so the course will not be available for social play. On Sunday 12 March, Sporters are holding the Maureen Bates Memorial Day, a 2 person ambrose event. The day is open to all players, handicaps will be determined where needed and intending players are asked to use the time sheet on display at the club.

Next Saturday, 11 March, another stroke event, the second round for the Pike Trophy. The day will be sponsored by Steve and Sandy Kay. Time sheet for the day is also on the board at the club.
