The end of month 4BBB stableford golf event at Stanthorpe on Saturday 30 September drew a good crowd of players with the day sponsored by Amcal Chemist, courtesy of club member, Michael Lane, and we thank him for the great trophies on the day.

An odd number of players on the day meant that a few competitors were swingers in their group, one of them being Kev Rowling who was paired with two others. Kev must be a good swinger, better than a golf cart technician, as he paired with Barry Hughes to win the event and also paired with Viv Thourd to take out runner up. All teams recorded 45 points for their rounds and the count back was needed to finalize places. A third place prize went to Bill Webb and Nathan Stibbard.

A short run down for the rest with Tod Sutherland, Jamie Stuart, Jason Bacon and Brendon Barker going home with something.

Men’s pin shots were won by Kev Rowling at 3, Barry Hughes at 12 and no one at 17. Ladies’ pins were won by Lisa Stuart at 3 and Lorraine Evans at 12. Billy Webb collected two pro-pins 1/10 and 9/18 with Raymond Adams taking the other at 5/14. No takers for the birdies nest.

Some good scores from all were returned on the day, even though the greens were on the slow side after the recent vertidrilling. A few weeks perhaps for the greens to settle down but sure they will be much better in the near future.

Some players were a bit remiss in not entering their sores via the computer. While it does not matter much right now as we are still using the white board, eventually it will be replaced by the video screen. Players should start getting used to the new system now as it could mean DISQ later.

A minor issue with pin markers arose on the day with several pin markers disappearing. Usually the last group out return the pin markers, but in a shot gun start, the last group to play the hole with a pin marker is responsible for returning the markers. Some one has all the pin markers for hole 17, perhaps a good collectors find. If you have them, please return to the starters box.

Next Saturday 7 October is the monthly medal, the last in the current year. Sponsor for the day is Wilshire and Co, courtesy of member, Todd Wilshire. Intending players should note that we revert to the summer afternoon session tee off time of 11.30 am.

Sunday 8 October is the club’s mixed foursomes championships. A number of our male players are very shy but there are some ladies who would be delighted to be invited to play. Next year is a leap year, we might reverse the order for invitations. Tee off for the event is 9.30 am following Sporters and the event is to be played over 27 holes.
