Golfers at Stanthorpe played a 4BBB stableford on Easter Saturday 30 March, the day sponsored by club member, Simon Shannon, and he is thanked for putting on the day. Always a popular event at the club, a capacity field played on the day and included not only local members but a number of visiting players in Stanthorpe for the Easter weekend.

Some very competitive scores were returned, the best from John Green and Brendan McMillan with 45 points for the day. Green was the mainstay of the team, just slightly outscoring playing partner McMillan, but when needed, added some very useful points to the tally.

Runner up went to the team of David Reeves and Jarrod Irwin who were one point away on 44 for the round. They also had a solid round but a couple of unexpected bogies didn’t help their cause. The run down for the day saw scores of 41 points and better rewarded.

The mixed team’s event was won by the team of Neta Thouard and Will Lathrope who came in with 41 points which was two clear of runners up, Kay Webb and Rino Piovesan. The mixed run down went a score of 39 points which was returned by Greg Carey and Maria Carey.

With the large field for the day, there were plenty of pin shots and approaches on offer, mostly they were shared around the field. A long list of recipients included Simon Shannon (1/10 pin), Brendon Barker (5/14 pin), Jarrod Irwin (9/18 pin), Brett Munro (NTP 3), Wes Smith (NTP 12), Max Hunter (NTP 17), Nikki Waterworth (NTP 3), Neata Thouard (NTP 12 and 17), Linda Kelly (2/11 pin) and Lorraine Evans (7/16 pin).

One noteworthy score on the day was from Andrew McLellan who recorded an eagle at the par 5 eleventh hole. Not too sure of how he did it, but the eagle counts as 2 under par for the hole and is equivalent to a hole in one on a par three. Great result.

Plenty of prizes for the day and thanks to sponsor Simon for presenting the winners of the day.

The club’s Easter raffle was finalised with the drawing of the winners. Lucky for the day’s event winner, Brendan McMillan for not only walking away with the winner’s prize but also taking out the winning number in the raffle. He might be a few kilos extra soon after noting the Easter eggs on offer. Second and third prizes to Keith and Max.

Next Saturday April 6 is a single stroke and the May monthly medal and putting competition. Sponsor for the day is club member, Richard Reardon. Time sheet is available by going to the club site.
