It was the end of month medley stableford last Saturday for golfers at Stanthorpe, the event sponsored by Jamworks Gourmet Foods and the club thanks them for the day. The course is continuing to dry out making playing conditions more favourable to all.

Two teams returned the winning score of 43 points and the count back used to find a winner. Lucky for Mark Hendry and Rino Piovesan to claim the day after they had the better score on the back nine. Unlucky for Lyle Bryant and Angelo Maugeri who settled for runner up, their better nine being the front nine.

A bit of misfortune for club captain, Keith Jones, who paired up with visitor Nathan Reardon for the event and between them, managed to reach 46 points. Unfortunately, Nathan’s handicap was not applicable on the day and the team was not eligible to feature in the top prizes.

Along with Nathan, Luke Reardon also played on the day, partnering father Richard on the day. He showed he hasn’t forgotten too much about the course by collecting pin shots at 12 and 17 as well as the pro-pins at 1/10 and 9/18. Lyle Bryant held the 3rd pin shot and Brad Silver the remaining pro-pin at 5/14. Two pin shots won for the ladies, Lyn Ludlow taking both.

In the run down, a prize for Ivan Juriss, Helen Jones, Len Leigh and Max Hunter.

Good news for all players that the club singles championships begin next Saturday. After being postponed several times through bad weather, the first of four rounds of stroke play begin next Saturday, then Satuday and Sunday the next weekend and final day the next Saturday. Rounds one and two are by the time sheet but the last two rounds will see players seeded. The event for the men will be in three grades.

Round one next Saturday will also be the September monthly medal and putting competition and the day will be sponsored 4 Water Supplies. The time sheet for the day is on the board at the club.
