Foursomes are in vogue for Stanthorpe golfers with the club’s foursomes championships just decided and mixed foursomes coming up soon. Last Saturday it was Canadian Foursomes played for the Howard and Sons Cups and sponsored by Mal, Terry and Fred Howard, who we thank for the day.
Once again, playing in the early am. time slot proved successful for the winners, Ivan Juriss and playing partner, Scott Constable with a score of nett 74 1/8. The runner up team was Mark Hendry and Keith Jones who were a nett ¾ of a shot behind. One missed or made putt on the day could have produced a very different result.
The ladies also played a Canadian Foursome with the club sponsoring the prizes for the day. The successful team was Marie Cook and Lyn Ludlow who had a very good round, returning nett 76 ¾ for their round. Runner up was the team of Kay Webb and Mei Bell.
Featuring in the run downs were Matt Waterworth and Alan Kerr, Angelo Maugeri and Aaron Simmers for the men and Nikki Waterworth and Helen Jones for the ladies.
Sunday 10 October, the club will be playing the mixed foursomes championships. The time sheet is on the board at the club and members are urged to find a partner and nominate, already quite a few names on the list.
The club’s Open weekend is fast approaching and the time sheets are filling very quickly with both local players and intending visitors from other clubs. Members should act quickly to get a preferred tee off time. Saturday’s Open event is medley 4BBB stableford and Sunday’s events will be stroke for men and stableford for the ladies.
Next Saturday is the October monthly medal and putting competition and the last chance to qualify for the Medal of Medallists play off in November. Only winners of medal events held over the last 12 months are able to compete for the M of M, although there will still be a separate single event for all members on the play off day.
The time sheet for the day is also posted at the club and the day’s event will be sponsored by club members, Ian Harvey and Rino Piovesan. Players should note that tee off time reverts to the later time of 11.30 am.
