Golfers at Stanthorpe had a busy day on Saturday 23 March, the final day for the Pike Trophies as well as a single event played for the Nuffield Cup (men) with the single event being sponsored by club member, Mark McCosker.
For the Pike Trophies, the best two of three stroke rounds determined the winners. Results were very close and count backs were needed in both men’s and ladies’ event to find the winners. Congratulations in order to Richard Reardon for winning the men’s Cup and to Nikki Waterworth for winning the ladies’ Cup.
At presentation time at the end of play, men’s vice captain, Greg Fraser, invited the sponsor of the day to offer a few words on the history of the Nuffield Cup. Mark did an admirable and informative talk on the history of the Nuffield Cup and how it fitted into his family background. Those present are now well aware of the background to this trophy. Even better for Mark when he was presented the Trophy for having the best score on the day, a nett 70.
As the sponsor, Mark gladly accepted the Cup and then passed the prizes down the line. So, Brendan McMillan was the lucky recipient of first prize and Santo Cavallaro gladly accepted the second place prize. Run down included scores of 73 and better.
The ladies’ event was won by Lisa Stuart with a nett 75, Lorraine Evans in runner up with nett 76. Featuring in the ladies run down were Neta Thouard and Mei Bell. Thanks again to Mark for handing out the prizes to the winners of the day.
Pin shots for the men were claimed by Angelo Maugeri at 3, Alan Kerr at 12 and Rod Paye at 17. Approached went to Matt Burgess at 1/10, and Nathan Stibbard at 5/14. Ladies’ pin shots claimed by Lisa Stuart at 3, Kay Webb at 12 and Neta Thouard at 17. Approaches won by Helen Jones at 5/14 and Laraine Gurnett taking 7/16.
The men’s pennants team hosted Warwick GC on Sunday 24 March, the day being rather wet with just better than a light shower. A good report for the Stanthorpe team winning their home match by 3 and 2.
Next Saturday 30 March, the last Saturday of the month is a 4BBB stableford with a shot gun start at 12.00 noon with registration by 11.30 am. Sponsor for the day is member, Simon Shannon who we welcome back to Stanthorpe for the Easter weekend. Time sheet for the day is online and the field is filling quickly.
