At Stanthorpe last Saturday 22 July, club golfers enjoyed one of the better winter afternoons for their competition on the day, a single stableford sponsored by club member, Scott Constable, and we thank him for the day. As well as the prizes for the day, Scott also put up a challenge for the members, similar to the putting contest last year. This year, the challenge is to score a total of 12 points on the last four holes of the eighteen hole competition, the reward being a new pair of golf shoes for the first player to be successful. No one managed it last Saturday, the best was 10 points, but the challenge is ongoing until a winner is found. A tie on the one day will need a decider.
Junior member, Hamish Adam, continued his good form and completed a second win for July, best score on the day of 38 points. A very good front nine of 20 points set up the win on the day. Brendan Barker also had a good round and was one point back on 37 points for runner up.
Ladies winner was Lynette Ludlow, also with a good score of 38 points after a solid front nine, set up the win. Runner up to Lorraine Evans, a few points back on 32.
Sponsor for the day, Scott Constable was well in the running for main prizes after playing in the early morning group. He ended up equal 4th but collected vouchers for the NTP at 12, pro-pin at 9/18 as well as the run down. Others to take a pin shot were Matt Waterworth ar 3, Brendan Barker at 17, Loraine Evans at ladies 12 and Mei Bell who holed out at 17 for a birdie claim at the hole. David Burgess held pro-pin at 1/10 and Matt Penn at 5/14. Nathan Stibbard collected the birdies nest at the second hole. Jason Bacon also collected a voucher in the run down.
Reminder to all of the Hellow Yellow Day on Sunday 27 August, a three person ambrose event. As well as previous notes about the day, an interesting rule for playing the 6th hole. instead of the team deciding whose drive should be selected at this hole, it will be the other team who must select and this has to be done before the teams leave the tee. Could be some arguments over this one.
Next Saturday 30 July, being the last comp of the month, will be a two person ambrose event, sponsor for the day being Australian Vinegar, courtesy of Ian Henderson. The Australian Vinegar sponsored day usually attracts a good field, so the time sheet is on the board at the club. The event will start with a shot gun start at 12.00 noon and players are requested to be registered twenty minutes earlier to allow the starter ample time to determine starting tees.
