Stanthorpe golfers played a stableford event last Saturday, the day sponsored by club member, Ian Pickering, and we thank him for the prizes on the day. A good field turned out for the day and included visitors from Bribie Island, McLeod and Riversdale Golf Clubs.

In the men’s event, three players came in with the best score of 37 points and the countback again was needed to find the winner which went to Brad Silver from Bribie Island. Mark McCosker ended with the runner up prize and Ivan Juriss settled for an award in the run down.

Thankfully for the ladies, the course is starting to dry out affording some run now on the fairways and the scores are starting to show this. Helen Jones had the best score of all on the day, 38 points to claim the win. Another countback for runner up which went to Nikki Waterworh over Lyn Ludlow, both players on 35 points.

Len Leigh took the pin shot at 3, Ian Harvey at 12 and Ivan Juriss at 17. Ladies’ pins claimed by Nikki Waterworth at 3 and Key Webb the rest at 12 and 17. Mark Hendry held the pro-pin at 1/10, Mark McCosker at 5/14 and Scott Constable at 9/18.

Others to feature in the run down were Jacob Steele, Stephen Kay and Kay Webb. The birdies’ nest at 10 was unclaimed.

Next Sunday the club is hosting the ‘Hello Yellow Charity Golf Day’ a 3 ball ambrose which is being sponsored by the Stanthorpe Community Bank with the benefit going to the Stanthorpe Cancer Support Group. Yellow is the theme of the day and players are encouraged to dress to the theme. Prizes for best dressed teams and best decorated buggies. The day is open to all golfers, no need to have a handicap as these will be determined on the day. It should be a fun day which is supporting a very worthwhle cause. Competition starts at 9.30 am and players are asked to register by 9.00am.

Next Saturday’s club event is the end of month medley stableford and will be sponsored by Jamworks Gourmet Foods. Play will start with a shot fun start at 12.00 noon with registration by 11.30 am. Giving the starter time to allocate tee positions.
