Stanthorpe golfers enjoyed some unpleasant weather for their stableford event on Saturday 19 August. Not only a strong wind from the SW but also cold conditions to contend with through the day. Just a typical day of golf in Stanthorpe at this time of the year. Plenty of jackets and beanies on display on the day.

The men’s event was sponsored by club member, Marie Cook and the ladies’ event sponsored by GTL Concrete Pumping, courtesy of member, Nathan Stibbard. Both sponsors are thanked for the day.

The cold conditions on the day indicated that scoring would be tough and this proved correct after looking at scores returned. Only a few managed to play to their handicap or better it. The men’s event resulted in two players with the best score, 37 points. The count back was in favour of Eric Ree over Ivan Juriss who settled for runner up. In the run down, a voucher for Hamish Adam and Brendon Barker.

The ladies’ event was won by Lisa Stuart who had an excellent round resulting in 38 points on the day, the best for the field. Runner up to Linda Kelly, two points behind on 36. Nikki Waterworth was next best on 33 points for the run down.

Players who were successful for pin shots were Scott Constable, Hamish Adam, Brendon Barker, Lisa Stuart and Christine Hood with a double. Pro-pins won by Darryl Boekholt, Mark Hendry and Matt Waterworth. Scott Constable collected the birdies nest at hole 6.

Most members are aware of the change of competition procedure with the club to be on-line in the near future. First time going live to be Wednesday 30 August. Opportunity for all to try out a practice session by following the instructions sent out during the week.

Hello Yellow Day next Sunday, 27 August, a 3 person ambrose event with the day to support The Stanthorpe Cancer Support group. Still time to get a team of three organised and nominate by contacting the club.

Next Saturday Aug 26 is the end of month teams event, a 4BBB stableford which is sponsored by Jamworks Gourmet Foods. Tee off time is by shot gun start at 12.00 noon with registration to be completed prior to this time to allow the starter to determine tee positions. Late arrivals probably will be sent to the third tee. Time sheet at the club.
