Stanthorpe golfers completed their third round for the Pike Trophy last Saturday 18 March. A good field turned out, some with expectation of a great round to help their score.
Nat Marano already had two rounds which gave him a convincing lead into the final round. His third round score was not needed and he was a comfortable winner of the men's Pike Trophy and getting his name engraved onto the plaque for 2023. The ladies event was much closer than the men's with the eventual winner coming from behind to claim the event. Christine Hood knew she needed a good round to claim the trophy and she managed this to take the ladies' trophy by a narrow margin.
The stroke event on the day was also played for the Nuffield Cup, another of the club’s trophies played for each year. Junior golfer, Hamish Adam, continued to show his potential returning a nett 69 for the day to claim the Cup and first place prize. Runner up went to Darryl Boekholt with nett 70. The ladies event resulted another win for Christine Hood after she returned nett 76, two shots ahead of runner up, Fiona Kelly, on nett 78.
Men’s pin shots were claimed by Richard Reardon at 3, Nathan Stibbard at 12 and Doug Henderson at 17. Filomena Silver held the ladies’ pin at 3, Helen Jones at 12 and Christine Hood at 17. Pro-pins went to Rob Thompson (visiting from Ipswich G C) with an eagle at the 1/10 hole, Scott Constable at 5/14 and Matt Burgess at 9/18. The birdies nest at hole no. 3 was claimed by Darryla Boekholt,
In the run down, a ball to scores of nett 71 going to Rob Thompson, Scott Constable, Matt Burgess, David Burgess and Alan Kerr.
Next Saturday, being the last Saturday of the month of March, a 4BBB stableford is on offer, the day to be sponsored by club members, John Green and Brendan McMillan. The day will be a shot gun start at 12.00 noon with registration to be completed by 11.30 am giving the starter plenty of time to organise starting tee allocation.
