Stanthorpe golfers enjoyed the change of weather last Saturday with warmth from the sunshine and only a slight breeze for their competition. The game was a stableford and a bonus for the winners who will have their names engraved onto the Finch Cups. Sponsor for the day were Eric and Shaneen McLellan who unfortunately were not able to be present on the day as they are somewhere else where it may be a better climate.

Mark Hendry produced one of his better rounds of 38 points to win the men’s division and add his name to the trophy. Club president, Len Leigh also had a good round of 37 points to take runner up, only after a countback with Matt Waterworth on the same score. Matt settled for the run down.

The ladies’ event was won by Lyn Ludlow with a score of 36 points to put her name on the ladies cup. Runner up, also after a countback went to Helen Jones over Lisa Stuart, both with 33 points.

Nikki Waterworth did the best for the ladies taking two of the three pin shots on offer, the 12th and the 17th. Men’s pins were won by Todd Sutherland at 3, Len Leigh at 12 and Ron Batterham at 17. Barry Jones went very close to collect pro-pin at 1/10, Scott Constable at 5/14 and Nathan Stibbard at 9/18. The birdies nest went unclaimed.

Run down went to score of 36 and better.

Congratulations to Keith Jones who has accepted the Captain’s position at the club. The role can be very demanding at times so hopefully he will get plenty of member support when needed.

Next Saturday is an end of month event so a shot gun start at 11.45 am for a stroke event. Sponsor for the day is Peter Patti Painting. Time sheet for the day is on the board at the club.
