Pleasant weather conditions were on for Stanthorpe golfers last Saturday with a stroke event on offer for the competition. The day was sponsored by Mark Baker and Fiona Kelly and they are thanked for the day. Unfortunately, both Mark and Fiona were not able to attend on the day as they are travelling around Victoria on an extended holiday.
Some surprising scores were returned on the day, some good and some not so good. Best for the men’s event came from Lyle Bryant and his nett 68 on the day was awarded the winner’s prize. One stroke back on nett 69 was Nat Marano who collected runner up prize.
The ladies’ event was won by Linda Kelly who had a great day on the course and her nett 69 was three clear of the field. In second place was Margie Locke, another solid round of nett 72, playing to her handicap.
Pin shots were shared around with Mark McCosker best at 3, Matt Burgess at 12 and Peter Patti at 17 scoring for the men. Lorraine Evans, Nikki Waterworth and Lyn Ludlow were succesful for the ladies. Matt Waterworth held the pro-pin at 1/10, Mark McCosker at 5/14 and Mick O’Brien at 9/18.
Birdies’ nest went off on the weekend with both Nathan Stibbard and Matt Waterworth finishing the 11th hole with 4 shots.
In the run down, nett 72 and better for the men and nett 73 and better for the ladies was good enough to collect a voucher.
Golf competition next weekend includes the Boxing Day Classic, a three person ambrose event for those wanting to get over the Xmas Day celebrations. The time sheet for the day is on the board at the club and at last look, is almost full, just a few spaces left. If intending to play, nominate yourself or a team and get on the board. The day’ comp will start at 9.00 am with a shot gun start. Sponsors for the day are Wes Smith, Tony Herman and Michael Hancock.
Next Saturday, Xmas Eve competition is a 4BBB stableford sponsored by the group known as Dad’s Army. They received this moniker because of their high standing at the club. A change to the normal tee off time, competition starts at 9.00 am with a shot gun start. Hopefully this alert is noted by all players, not like some who turned up last year at the normal time, only to see the competition in full swing. Merry Xmas to all golfers and hope Santa brings some new clubs, balls or anything.
