The final round for the Foundation Cups for Stanthorpe golfers was played last Saturday with a stroke round in play. The first round played the prior Saturday often gives a good indication as to the overall winners with the low scorers having a definite advantage in the field. John Green held a slender lead after the first round and went on to be a convincing winner of the men’s division. Likewise, Lisa Stuart held a small margin in the ladies’ event and completed the second round to claim the ladies’ Cup. Congratulations are in order for both players to add their names for the 2022 Foundation Cups.
In the day’s single event, John Green completed a double, winning the single event the previous Saturday, then going on for a very good win last Saturday, nett 63 on the day. Runner up went to Keith Allen who also had one of his better rounds with a nett 68.
The ladies’ single stroke saw a reversal of fortunes from the previous week with winner and runner up changing places. Mei Bell and Lisa Stuart reversed the order from the first week with Mei taking the win from Lisa, nett 76 to nett 77.
Men’s pin shots were shared around this week, Brad Silver at 3, Aaron Simmers at 12 and Viv Thouard at 17. Nikki Waterworth collected 3 and 12 for the ladies, Lisa Stuart the remaining at 17. Pro-pins went to Matt Waterworth at 1/10, Barry Jones at 5/14 and Barry Hughes at 9/18. The birdies nest at 8 was shared between Matt Waterworth and Scott Constable, both with a birdie on the hole. Bad luck for Viv Thouard who thought he had the birdies nest, a good birdie on the hole but the second time around on the 17th hole.
In the run down, Gary Kirby (71), Aaron Simmers (71) and Nikki Waterworth (78) each received a ball.

Several events are on the programme in the next few weeks, a single stableford will be played on Wednesday 26 January, Australia Day, with a shot gun start at 8.30 am. Sponsor for the day is Andersen’s Carpets. There is a rumour there might prizes for most appropriately dressed player(s) and decorated buggies.
