Last Saturday’s event was an Individual Stableford sponsored by the Stanthorpe Community Bank.
Recent storms have provided enough rain to provide good growth on the fairways and preferred lies were introduced. Members expressed their joy at not having to hit off mats.
Good scoring was the order of the day and Darryl Boekholt was the winner with 41 points.
There was a 4 way tie on 39 points for runner up and the Club Junior Champion Mat Burgess prevailed on a count back. Mat is now playing off 16 handicap and the way he’s progressing it won’t be long before he beats dad David who has a 7 handicap. Should make for interesting dinner table conversation anyway.
A second runner up prize was provided and collected by Mark McCosker. The other 2 players on 39 points and several on 38 got a ball in the rundown.
For the ladies Kay Webb played inspired golf to be a clear winner with 39 points. The 2 runners up were Helen Jones and Nikki Waterworth.
Pin shots for the men were collected by Matt Waterworth on 3, Barry Hughes on 12 and Scott Constable on 17.
Approach shots for the ladies were collected by Linda Kelly on 12 and Kay Webb on 17.
Pro pins were 1/10 Greg Fraser, 5/14 Matt Waterworth and 9/18 Andrew Burgess.
Next week is an Individual Stroke sponsored by Len Leigh.
Players are reminded to get their names down for the Boxing Day classic a 3 person Ambrose with a shotgun start at 9.00am. The timesheet is filling fast for this very popular event.
There won’t be RSL golf Christmas week and the following week it will be played on Thursday 2nd January with the usual hit off times.
