The second round of the club’s championships was held on Saturday, May 13, so another stroke event which was sponsored by club members, Mark and Racheal Hendry and we thank them for the day. In addition, the stroke event was also the May monthly medal and putting competition.
The men’s event was won by Terry Roser after he returned a nett 68, the lowest for the day. An improved round from Terry who has been treading water of late so he was pleased to back on the dry fairway for a very good round. Keith Jones, after an indifferent front nine, produced a good back nine to lift him in to runner up for the day. Lowest gross round for the day was from Matt Burgess with 76. Putting honours for the men to Greg Fraser on the day.
Ladies’ event went to Lyn Ludlow who finished with a nett 74, just one ahead of Lisa Stuart who was runner up. Lisa however did manage to have the lowest gross score of 90 for the ladies as well as best putting score of 28 for the round.
Men’s pin shots claimed by Matt Burgess at 3, Scott Constable at 12 and Matt Leigh at 17. Ladies pins went to Marie Cook at 17 and Lyn Ludlow at 12. No takers for 3. Pro-pins were won by Billy Webb at 1/10, Scott Constable at 5/14 and Keith Jones at 9/18, A double for Keith as he also collected the birdies nest at the ninth hole.
In the run down, scores of nett 74 and better for the men and nett 81 and better for the ladies received a voucher.
With the second round of the championships now complete, a number of contenders are putting themselves in position for the final two rounds. All of the divisions in both men’s and ladies’ sections of the draw have a handful of players who are in contention to win their division, very close to call at this stage.
The third round will be played Saturday 20 May and the final round on Sunday 21 May. Both days are by seeded draw and the Saturday draw is on the board at the club. Sunday’s draw will be done at the completion of play on Saturday. Players will need to go to the club to find their tee off time for Saturday. Sponsor for Saturday is Chris Fittock Plumbing and Gas and Sunday sponsors are Alan Kerr and Dale Minchenton. Intending players not competing in the championship rounds are still able to play in the event on the day.
While on the subject of competition sponsors, an apology to Linda Kelly who was one of the sponsors for the first round of the championships but was not acknowledged in the report through a lapse of the writer of the column. With her co-sponsors, she is also thanked for the day.
