Stanthorpe golfers played a stroke event last Saturday 10 February, the day sponsored by club members Matt Waterworth and Nikki Waterworth and we thank them for the day. Weather conditions were more favourable than of late, a cool breeze appreciated by all who played.
The men’s event looked likely to be close finish with a number of players in contention. In the end, David Stuart outpaced the rest and his nett 66 was best for the day. His front nine set up the win and included a birdie at the third hole, a two at the par 3 hole, needing 44 for the outward trip. Back nine was a bit harder but the work had been done and he was a 2 shot winner.
Kev Rowling was next best with a round of nett 68, 2 shots back from the winner. His round was very steady and on any other day, could have been the winner. Taking up minor positions were Hamish Adam and Mark McCosker, two players who very rarely have a bad day, being one further back on nett 69.
The ladies’ event was another victory to Lynette Ludlow who was well clear of the field with a nett 69. Her front nine and back nine were fairly even, most holes being successfully scored. Lisa Stuart was next best with a nett 73. Again, as the winner, Lisa’s scores showed a steady round of golf. In minor places, Filomena Silver has continued to lower her handicap with a nett 76 and Kay Webb is showing improvement from injury with a nett 77.
Rod Werner played a good tee shot to take the men’s pin at 3, Hamish Adam did the same at 12 and also had the best approach at pro-pin 9/18. Mark McCosker collected for his tee shot at 17. Other men’s approaches went to Matt Waterworth at 1/10 and Kev Rowling at 5/14. Lisa Stuart had the best tee shot for the ladies’ pin at 12 as well as best approach at hole 2. Nikki Waterworth held the ladies’ approach at 7 and the ladies’ winner, Lynette Ludlow, held the pin shot at 3.
Plenty of golf coming up in the near future with the Apple & Grape events almost here. Members should keep checking when time sheets are available and get in quick as these events usually fill up fairly quickly.
Next weekend, play will be a stableford event with the day sponsored by local travel business, HelloWorld. Time sheet for the day is again available on-line.
Stanthorpe Sporters
Stanthorpe Sporters golfers played the front nine for their Sunday 11 February game. Not a big field with the overcast clouds indicating some possible rain showers, which didn’t eventuate. The morning was very cool compared to some of the mornings over the last few weeks.
The day’s winner was Angelo Maugeri with a score of nett 22. Angelo’s putting had been a bit off at late but some very good putts were holed on the day. Runner up on the day was Aaron Simmers and the run down went to Mark Lynam.
Being the front nine in play, only one pin shot to play for and this went to Paul Armstrong at hole 3. Paul also had the best gross score of 40 on the day.
For all Sporters, next Sunday 18 Feb will include a number of visitors coming down from Warwick Golf Club, so a good turn out of local players would be wonderful. Be at the course ready to play by 8.00 am and all players are most welcome.
