In country districts like the Granite Belt, we love the rain – even on a Saturday. In perfectly coordinated timing the 11am shot gun start, started the rain too. The Gallant Golfers ‘galoshed’ on for nine holes until the greens were awash and the ducks bogged. This nine hole ‘splash’ enabled a result; the game was a three ball ambrose (teams of three) sponsored by the clubs two BIG hitters, Jason Bacon and Brendon Barker. Jason and Brendon were joined by Rick Goodrich and these three wet track specialists (long ball flight, no run) won! Congratulations. Hot on their wet heels were Darrell Boekholt, Barry Hughes and none other than the rooky of the year: Ted Bobby. We are so proud of Ted. He is not a golfer of any regular description. This was Ted’s first ever competition – and he came second. It should be noted that they were second on a tight margin as third place was only .16 of one shot behind! Well done to Dave Reeves, Jarrod and Brent Irwin.
Well done to the following players on individual holes. Nearest the Pin on 3rd hole: Len Leigh. Pro Pins, men’s and ladies: Jazza, Brendon Barker, Jack Parker, Todd Beckett, Filomena Silver, Lorraine Evans, Helen Jones (x2). Approach shots: Brendon Barker, Netta Thouard. Accuracy Drives: Terry Roser, Brad Silver, Raymond Adams and Neta Thouard. Longest Drive: Helen Jones and Jason Bacon (who else!)
If that wasn’t enough excitement, Saturday night was the legendary Golf Club Christmas Party. After a sumptuous first course our beloved President and Captain made various presentations. The Match Play silver plate trophy went to our top Junior and scratch player, Hamish Adam. Cheers filled the room when the ladies golfer of the year was announced to be Lynette Ludlow and runner-up, the ever-competitive Nikki Waterworth. Tension was building up in the club house for the announcement of the Men’s Golfer of the Year. The beloved President announced the runner up – the giant junior, Hamish Adam. Finally, the men’s golfer of the year was announced … with the loud acclamation of all present, Mr Ivan Juriss. Ivan is a model golfer, sportsman and gentleman. It was a well-deserved recognition.
