The ‘Wanna be’ Olympians. Saturday’s Golf in Stanthorpe was a perfect day … except for all the things that went wrong. The modern age of computers has entered the ancient game of golf. Unfortunately, the computer threw a ‘hissy fit’ and wouldn’t cooperate with the Captains. But thanks to the Olympian effort of Deb Joyce who determined that ‘the games must go on’, we were able to send the whole field out for a noon shot gun start. Mercifully the

Acting Vice Captain is a terrible shot, and no one was injured during the shot gun start.

The weather was perfect for golf (Paris eat your heart out!) and a most enjoyable day was had by a good field. The day was sponsored by Keith and Helen Jones who have been stalwarts of the club for many years and have contributed to the life of the club in many ways. Thank you, Keith and Helen, you are a special part of our lives.

The ‘wanna be’ Olympians for the Ladies were Gold to Lisa Stuart and the Silver to Helen Jones! Instead of taking the second prize Helen passed it on the third-place getter Lynette Ludlow. Run downs to Linda Kelly and Loraine Evans. Pins; Lynette Ludlow, Lisa Stuart and Linda Kelly. Well done, Ladies.

The ‘wanna be Olympians’ for the Men were Gold to Phill Mihulka (ably coaching his grandson Eli). The Silver went to Rod Paye and the Bronze to Terry Roser. Pins to Matt Burgess (by 2), Clayton Frank (by 2), Barry Jones and Ian Henderson.

Finally, a few other ‘wanna be’ Olympians to mention. Aaron Simmers put in a brief appearance. It’s great that Aaron is out of hospital, and we wish him a speedy recovery. It’s a pleasure to see Lyle Bryant back on the fairways. All the best to you Lyle. Santo and Vita Cavallaro are off on a cruise or three and we wish them ‘Bon Voyage.’ Finally, Olympic Golf - keep an eye out for a real Olympian, local boy Luke Reardon, caddy for Jason Day.

Next Saturday is sponsored by Go Vita. We are very grateful for their sponsorship, and we encourage all readers to drop in this week and treat yourself to some of the best healthy eating and drinking you will find.

The Member's Draw was held, and Ken Rossingtons name was called. Unfortunately, Ken was not in attendance, so the members draw jackpots to $70 next Saturday 3rd of August.
