Readers will remember the old saying … Sticks and stones can break my bones but … And Readers need to know that a large part of the game of golf is about skill however there is an element of gamesmanship, called sledging. Now at this point the Writer would like to make a public apology to Mr Thomas Page, I’m sorry for interrupting your conversation with my golf swing. Actually, the reassuring thing about Tom is that I don’t think he could ever drown – because he couldn’t keep his head down long enough. Tom was driving the ball well all day until he had a dam to hit over – ‘don’t think of the water Tom’ – splash. Say no more.

The day’s play was sponsored by none other than that local identity who has built many quality standout homes to domicile residents of the Granite Belt, Mr Wesley Smith. Thank you, Wes, for your continued support of the club and indeed the Granite Belt.

The Day’s Play was the Monthly Medal, Stroke Event.

Results: Ladies, well done Sandra Ellis with a net 73. Runner Up was Nikki Waterworth on 74 and the Rundowns to Lisa Stuart and Lynette Ludlow. The Pro Pins went to Nikki Waterworth and Linda Kelly. Nearest the Pin went to Nikki Waterworth, Trish Fittock and Lisa Stuart. The best Gross (off the stick) score for the day went to Lisa Stuart and the fewest putts went to Lynette Ludlow. Well, done ladies.

Results: Men, the winner of the Monthly Medal was none other than the day’s sponsor, Wesley Smith with a net score of 70. Sensational play Wes. Wes was also the receipient of the Todd Beckett sponsored tumbler, filled with some kind of refreshing liquid(?). It’s not cricket – or golf – to win one's own competition, so the winner on the day, on a count back from Wes was that friendliest of friends in the early morning starters group, Ron Batterham with a net of 70. That is hero play for Ron and its been a long time between drinks since Ron’s last win. Runner Up was that master of the sledge Mr Keith Jones who takes particular delight in ‘getting into the head’ of this poor innocent Writer. Keith had a great score of 72 and won the putting competition with 26 putts. Pro Pins and Pins went to Matt Waterworth, Hamish Adam, Ian Henderson, Barry Jones and Harry Day. Hamish Adam got the best gross with 73 off the stick. Well, done Hamish.

Next Saturday the 8th of February the spornors are Matt and Nikki Waterworh. However, the President, Len Leigh, Captain, Brad Silver and Secretary, Greg Fraser will be competing in the Darling Downs Golf Association, Committee Members Challenge at Oakey. Hopefully, with appropriate sledging, we can do the club proud!

The Members draw is now at $240. To win you must be in the club at the time of the draw.
