The Monthly Medal is always a popular event on the golfing calendar and the April monthly medal on the 11th was no exception with 60 players vying for the trophy. Although we are well into Autumn the weather is still hot and very dry and this is impacting on the course condition with fairways beginning to really brown off and become quite patchy and bare in places. However, the irrigated greens are still (dare I say it) green and in good condition. The competition was generously sponsored by local tomato grower and long-term member Richard Reardon, and we thank Ritchie for his sponsorship. Ritchie’s son Luke caddies for Jason Day who is currently playing in the US Masters in Augusta, and he was able to supply some genuine Jason Day golf balls for the nearest the pin winners.
The winner on the day was first time medal winner Ian Henderson with an excellent PB score of 66 nett. Runner up, also with a great score of 68 nett was Rino Piovesan. Best gross score went to Scott Constable with a great score of 73 off the stick. Least putts were won by Jarrod Irwin with an amazing 24 putts. Men’s pin shots went to Barry Jones on 3, Terry Roser on 12 and Grant Howard on 17.
Great approaches were won by Wes Smith (1/10), Rick Goodrich (5/14) and visitor Rohan Dunn (9/18).
The ladies had a very competitive game with Filomena Silver coming out on top winning the April medal with an excellent score of 68 nett. Second place was won by Trish Fittock with 70 nett on a countback from Lisa Stuart. Lisa however did win the best gross with a very good score of 86 strokes and the least putts with an excellent 26 putts. Ladies Pin shots went to Nikki Waterworth on 12 and Neta Thouard on 17. Trish cleaned up the approach shots on 2/11 and 7/16.
Congratulations to all our winners and to everyone who participated in the day. Next week is a Single Stroke event sponsored by members Kay Webb, Linda Kelly and Lorraine Evans.
