Welcome to Scotland. Saturday’s golf started with wind, rain and
freezing cold – What more could any golfer want? Welcome to Scotland
here in Stanthorpe! The day’s play was a Canadian Foursome. To the
uninitiated this form of the game is crazy. To the initiated it is
still crazy! However, the point is that we do it each year to remember
someone very special, Peter Howard. It is a special day of golf
sponsored by Mal, Fred and Terry Howard in memory of their father Peter
Howard. Along with generous prize money is a trophy. Readers, of some
antiquity, may remember Howard’s and Mitre 10, Howard’s Builder’s
Hardware, and Howard’s sawmills at the Summit and Warwick. Peter was a
great supporter of the club and it is a privilege to remember his
contribution to the town and to golf.
Men’s. Congratulations to Jason Bacon and Brendan Barker first place
and in hot pursuit was that incorrigible father and son duo of Brent and
Jarrod Irwin. Pins went to Hayden Smith, Todd Beckett, Jason Bacon,
Brendan Barker, Mark Richards and Greg Fraser. Mention should also be
made of Gary Kirby who drove the ball from the first tee to within 40
metres of the green. Hmm, … O well, I guess we could say that he missed
the green by 40 metres.
The Ladies Golf was also a Canadian Foursome. This competition was
sponsored by none other than our very own Mei Bell. Mei is a great
ambassador for the game of golf and specialises in turning miserable non
golfing ladies into really happy golfing ladies. For those ladies who
would love to learn and start playing golf – Mei is the lady you need to
know. Simply contact the club and Mei will get you started in no time.
Congratulations to the birthday girl, Nikki Waterworth and Lynette
Ludlow. Second place went to Neta Thouard and Lisa Stuart. Pins went
to Linda Kelly and Lynette Ludlow.
Next week's game is sponsored by Michael Lane.
The Members Draw has Jackpotted to $60 next week 5th of October.
