Stanthorpe Golf
Fires breaking out in and around Stanthorpe last weekend left golf competition in limbo with expected players busy elsewhere, either helping out trying to confine fire damage and others having to be evacuated for safety reasons. Those who opted to assist in controlling the fires are to be congratulated for the effort put in and thankfully there was little harm done to those who were in the danger zone and most properties were safe.
The scheduled club foursomes championships programmed for the Sunday did attract sufficient numbers for the men’s event to proceed. The event was played over 27 holes and in two divisions. For A grade, Casey Leotta and David Reeves returned the winning score of 119 for the round. This was a win by the smallest of margins of one shot from the next team.
B division was a clear win to the team of Chris Fittock and Trevor Ludlow who returned a score of 137, five shots clear of the field. Their 18 hole score was 94, with 47 on each nine and their third nine of 43 sealed the issue.
Overall, the best nett score of the day went to Scott Constable and Wes Smith, a consolation for missing the A grade score by one shot.
Ron and Annelle Batterham were sponsoring the Saturday medal event which was cancelled and instead put on the trophy for the nett event in the foursomes and we thank them for doing this.
Pin shots on the day went to Casey Leotta at 3 and Mick O’Brien at 12.
Next Sunday is the Glen Aplin State School golf day, tee off from 9.00 am with registration by 8.30 am. This is to be a fun day and all are welcome, golfers and non-golfers, a chance for the clubs to see the light of day. Nomination sheet at the club.
