Golf at Stanthorpe last Saturday was the August monthly medal and putting competition, another chance to qualify for the Medal of Medallists later in the year. Appreciation to our sponsor for the day, Scott, Michael and Louise of Stanthorpe Newsagency for the trophies on the day.

New member to the club, Shaun Yates, recently joined up and showed that the course is suited to his game. A handy 87 off the stick for a nett 63 was a definite win. A very steady round with only one real blemish on his card, an 8 at the 13th. Shaun’s handicap has been altered.

Unlucky for Matt Waterworth who parred the course but with a much lower handicap settled for runner up with a nett 69. Matt did have the lowest gross score on the day.

Lisa Stuart continued her good form in the ladies event, returning a nett 78 and to hold out Mei Bell in a count back to take top prize. Lisa also had the lowest gross of 95 for the ladies. Mei settled into runner up.

Winners of the putting event were Angelo Maugeri with 26 putts and Nikki Waterworth with 31 putts for the round.

Pin shots were won by Craig Fossey at 3, David Burgess at 12, Brad Silver at 17 for the men and to Margie Locke at 12 and Lisa Stuart at 17 for the ladies. Pro-pins collected by Matt Waterworth at 1/10, Brendan Barker at 5/14 and Mark Hendry (again) at 9/18.

Men’s run down went to nett 74 and better and ladies to nett 79.

Some upcoming events for players to be aware of include the foursomes championships to be played next Sunday 14 August commencing at 9.30 am after Sporters. Time to arrange a partner for this popular alternate shot competition.

The greens will be undergoing their annual coring on Monday 15 August after several times being postponed due to wet weather. Helpers would be greatly appreciated, all welcome, around 7.30 am and bring a rake if you have one.

A fund raising day of Sunday 28 August, a three person ambrose for the Hellow Yellow Charity Golf Day. The day is sponsored by the Community Bank Stanthorpe/Bendigo Bank with proceeds to the Stanthorpe Cancer Support Group. The day is open to all players, including social players, no need to hold an official handicap, so get a team of three and enter the event by contacting the club or dropping into the clubhouse to book your time. Prizes for teams events and novelty events. Remember to wear something yellow.

Next Saturday’s competition is a single stableford sponsored by club members, Madeline Jarman and Lorraine Evans. Time sheet is on the board at the club.
