The June monthly medal and putting competition was held last Saturday at Stanthorpe, another chance to qualify for the Medal of Medallists later in the year. The day’s event was sponsored by Stanthorpe Meats and the club thanks them for their continued sponsorship.
In a close men’s competition, Len Leigh won the day after a countback with Aaron Simmers, both players scoring nett 73. Len has now qualified after his win, Aaron settled for runner up prize of the day.
Best gross score was returned by Matt Waterworth with 78 off the stick for his round. The putting competition was a walk in for Angelo Maugeri who needed only 22 putts for the round.
The ladies medal event was won by Mei Bell which was a maiden Saturday victory for her. Mei returned nett 76 for her round and , like the men’s event, a countback with Helen Jones put her in front. Helen settled for runner up on the day. Mei’s victory came as a second for the week as she also managed to top the ladies field in the Wednesday competition.
Marie Cook took the honours for the gross event with 90 for her round. Annelle Batterham had least number of putts for the ladies, 30 for the day.
Pin shots were won by Darrly Boekholt at 3, Scott Constable at 12 and Matt Waterworth at 17. Ladies pins went to Nikki Waterworth at 3 and 17 and Kay Webb collected at 12. Pro-pins were claimed by Scott Constable at 1/10, Alan Kerr at 5/14 and Keith Jones at 9/18.
In the run down, scores of nett 76 and better for the men and nett 79 and better for the ladies were rewarded with a ball. Highlight of the day went to Tom Fittock who managed a 13 at the par 5 6th hole after he got caught up in the bunker near the green. After a number of shots needed to clear the netting face of the bunker, it ruined what might have been a possible winning round.
Next Saturday is an individual stableford sponsored by club members, Keith and Helen Jones. Tee off time from 11.00 am and the time sheet is on the board at the club.
