The February monthly medal and putting competition was held at Stanthorpe last Saturday. Sponsor for the day was Wes Smith Building P/L and the club is very appreciative to Wes for putting on the awards for the day’s play.

Several heavy downpours of rain during the week had quite an affect on the course, the fairways were slow and the pins were in some tricky positions, low scoring might have bee a problem. Looking at the final scores, the observation was fairly correct with some high score being returned. Steady golf seemed to be the order of the day.

This is what the men’s winner, Rod Werner, managed to achieve with his nett 72. Apart from a birdie at the par 3 twelfth hole, his other scores indicated that he did not get into a lot of trouble, a good run for the win on the day.

Viv Thouard returned a nett 73 to claim runner up. Again, as the winner did, Viv kept his ball in play most of the time and fully earned second prize.

The ladies found the going fairly tough with not a lot of run on the fairways resulting in not a lot of distance from hits. It was the early morning players who seemed to have the better of the day with both winner and runner up being in the early group. Lisa Stuart was back in first place with a nett 76 and Fiona Kelly collected runner up, six shots back.

Scott Constable again had the lowest gross score of 78 and the ladies winner, Lisa Stuart, also had best gross score for the ladies, 97 for the round. Putting honours for the men shared between Wes Smith, Mark McCosker and Matt Waterworth, 26 for the round. Lyn Ludlow had least putts for the ladies, 31 on the day.

David Burgess, Greg Fraser, Rob Reeves, Fiona Kelly and Lisa Stuart all collected for a pin shot while Matt Burgess, David Burgess and Rob Reeves held a pro-pin each. The birdies nest at 12 was shared between Matt Waterworth and Greg Fraser.

Men’s run down went to nett 75 and better and ladies to 84 and better.

There are a number of events coming up in the next month or two and members should check their programmes for these. Next weeks event is an individual stroke event with sponsors being Matt and Nikki Waterworth. Time sheet for this event is at the club.
