It was monthly medal time at Stanthorpe last Saturday, the second last chance to qualify for the Medal of Medallists. The day was sponsored by club members, Fiona Kelly and Mark Baker and we thank them for the prizes on the day.

It looked likely that an early morning player would take the honours on the day until Santo Cavallaro returned a nett 71 which was the best score of the day. Santo had one or two bad holes on his round but was saved with some good putting which kept him in the game. In all, he had ten holes which required only the one putt to be in the hole.

Runner up went to Scott Constable with nett 73 and he also had the best gross score of 75 for the day. Putting honours were claimed by Wes Smith needing a mere 26 putts for the round.

A countback was needed to find the winner of the ladies’ event, both Marie Cook and Margie Locke returning a nett 72. The countback favoured Marie leaving runner up prize for Margie. Marie also had the lowest gross score of 86 for the ladies and Margie Locke did have least number of putts, 29 for the round.

Pin shots went to Matthew Penn at 3 and David Burgess at 17. Ladies’ pin shots claimed by Nikki Waterworth at 3 and 12 and Marie Cook at 17. Nikki’s pin shot at 12 produced a birdie on the hole which also was the birdies nest on the day. Reportedly, Nikki chipped into the hole from a greenside bunker. Pro-pins were won by Jacob Steele at 1/10, Ian Harvey at 5/14 and David Reeves at 9/18.

Barry Jones, Mick O’Brien, Jacob Steele, Max Hunter, Max Smith and Linda Kelly were included in the run down.

The ladies event also included qualifying for the Ladies Captain’s Match play with the top eight scores being successful. The lady’s captain, Annelle has the list and has prepared the draw.

Next Saturday is an individual stableford with the men’s event sponsored by Marie Cook and the ladies’ event sponsored by Mandy Benussi and Lyn Ludlow. Tee off from 11.00 am and the time sheet is on the board.
