Stanthorpe golfers played an individual stableford last Saturday, the day being sponsored by club member, Michael Lane, who we thank very much for the trophies on the day. The forecast for the day was the possibility of a storm during the afternoon and this eventuated sending quite a few to seek cover from the lightning and rain. As a result, with a number of players not finishing, the decision was made to go for a club trophy and to hold the sponsors day to a later time.
For those who did finish the day’s competition, Matthew Burgess had the best score of 37 points and be the day’s men’s winner. His back nine ensured a good win after 20 points were added to his 17 points on the front nine. Runner up went to Lyle Bryant who was one point back on 36 after recording 18 points out and 18 in. After recording points on all holes, a disappointing zero points at the final hole was very costly.
With only one of the ladies’ field completing the competition, the only awards presented were for pin shots. Lisa Stuart collected at the third hole and Margie Locke was successful at 12. No takers for 17.
Men’s pins went to David Gianini at 3, Matt Leigh at 12 and Alan Kerr at 17. No takers for the pro-pin at 1/10 and Matt Burgess taking 5/14 and Nigel Eldridge collecting at 9/18. Men’s run down went to Mick O’Brien and visitor, M. Hogan from Gailes GC.
Next Saturday is the November monthly medal and putting competition, the first for the next season and our sponsor for the day is Poole’s Produce, another of the club’s long standing sponsors.
In conjunction with this event, the Medal of Medallists finals will be held for both men and ladies. Only the winners of monthly medal events over the last 12 months have qualified to be eligible to win this event.
The ladies M of M is again being sponsored by Tom and Trish Fittock, now in their sixth year of sponsorship of this event. Both Tom and Trish are presently both injured and we wish them well for their recovery. The men’s M of M will be played for the Roy Carnell Trophy and sponsored by the Carnell family.
The time sheet for the day is on the board at the club. Tee off again either early morning am and 11.30 am for the afternoon session.
