The David Townsend Memorial golf day was held last Saturday with the event being a medley 4BBB stableford. The day was sponsored by the RSL golfers who compete in a mid week golf competition at the club and to a great extent, a fitting sponsor, as David did initiate a mid-week competition at the club as well as being an ex-service man himself.
Best score of the day was from Len Leigh and Viv Thouard after they returned a score of 45 points. Len and Viv managed to combine well through their round recording either 2 or 3 points at each hole. Their one point hole at the 8th was off set with a birdie at the 12th hole which gave them 4 points. They managed 22 points out and 23 back for their total.
With two teams on 44 points for runner up, the count back went in the favour of Rod Werner and Kev Rowling, one point better than Ron Batterham and Scott Constable who settled for a ball in the run down. Both teams had 22 points on each nine.
The run down went to 41 points and better so a ball each also to Richard Reardon and Graham Fraser, Wes Smith and Hayden Smith and Matt Waterworth and Nikki Waterworth.
The final award was the encouragement prize for having the lowest score on the day. In a close finish, Reno Piovesan and Lorraine Evans were successful in claiming this section.
Special thanks to one of the winners, Viv Thouard, for adding a few words on behalf of the day’s sponsor, RSL golf, and how they encourage and assist ex-service people in the community, of which a number are regular playing members of the club.
Next Saturday is the March monthly medal and putting competition, a stroke event and another chance to qualify for Medal of Medallists in November. The time sheet is on the board at the club, teeing off from 11.30 am.
