The long weekend of golf at Stanthorpe provided two day’s of competition, a 4BBB stableford on Saturday followed by a 3 person ambrose event on Sunday. The competition numbers were boosted with the visiting players from Kilcoy, many of whom have done so for 20 years.
Saturday’s event, the 4BBB, was again sponsored by Kilcoy’s Biz and Jeff Ihle and the club is very appreciative of their continued involvement. The best score for the day was 46 points and was returned by the all ladies team of Margie Locke and Christine Hood. It was possibly the first time that a medley event held at Stanthorpe was won a ladies team and they are congratulated for their success. Tom Fittock and Alan Kerr claimed runner up prize and were three points back with 43 points on the day.
Pin shots of the day went to Alex (Kilcoy) at 3, Keith Allen at 12 and Matt Waterworth at 17. The ladies’ pins went to the winning team with Christine Hood collecting 3 and 12 while Margie Locke was successful at 17.
Pro-pins were won by Scott Constable at 1/10, Poulty (Kilcoy) at 5/14 and Barry Jones at 9/18. The run down went to scores of 42 and better.
Sunday’s event was the 3 person ambrose sponsored by Black Toyota of Warwick, courtesy of club member, Rob Reeves.
Winning team consisted of Mick O’Brien, Simon Shannon and Matt Waterworth who carded 7 birdies and an eagle for their round. This was a double up for two of the three in the winning team, with both O’Brien and Shannon featuring in top spot twelve months ago.
Runner up was the team of Ray Adams, Lisa Stuart and Mei Bell who were two shots back. First run down went to Biz, Cracker and Dusty, all from Kilcoy, who were one shot further back. Winners of the mixed team event were Kay Webb, Len Leigh and Keith Jones.
The club would like to thank the sponsors of the competitions, Biz and Jeff Ihle for Saturday and Black Toyota of Warwick for Sunday’s event as well as the many players who travelled for the golf on the weekend. Understand that both sponsors will again be back next year.
For local players, next Saturday is an individual stableford sponsored by Go Vita Stanthorpe, care of John Bylicki, an event which was held back from last month because of a very wet course. Warwick golf pro, Sam Eaves will be attending and he is conducting a putting and chipping clinic for interested players and this will commence at 9.00 am. Again, anyone who wants particular golf gear should contact Sam at the Warwick club and arrange with him to bring such with him on the day.
A slight change is being tried for the time sheet with a two-tee start being trialled on the day, hopefully to utilise the course better. Intending players should go and check the sheet out at the club prior to Saturday. Tee off time will be from 11.30 am.
