A good field turned out for the end of month medley 4BBB stableford last Saturday with proceeds for the day donated to the ‘McDonalds Men’s Cancer Awareness Charity’. The day was sponsored by McDonalds of Stanthorpe and we thank them for the day.

Best score of the day was the team of Eric Ree and Richard Reardon with a final score of 43 points. Their front nine was very steady with 20 points on the card. They finished the back nine with a four pointer at the 18th hole to secure the win.

With two teams returning 42 points, the countback was needed to decide the runner up. Cal Smith and Tod Beckett were the lucky recipients just nudging out the mixed team of Helen and Keith Jones. Helen and Keith settled for the run down.

John Green and I. Lowrie (41 pts), Trevor Wren and Max Hunter (41 pts), and Scott Constable and Ivan Juriss (40 pts) also collected a ball in the run down.

Scott Constable laso made the highlight reel with an eagle recorded at the 11th hole. The hole plays as a par 5 and Scott’s three shots to be in the hole produced four points for their team. Not to be outdone, playing partner, Ivan Juriss, recorded a birdie the 18th hole which also added 4 points to their score. A couple of one pointers at a few holes didn’t help their score.

By the time play gets under way next Saturday, the greens should have been scarified, cored and sanded meaning putting could be a bit suspect for a few weeks. With the recent rain, the greens should recover quickly and be better than they are already. Thanks to the volunteers who assisted Green keeper Bill in this work.

Next Saturday is an individual stableford sponsored by club member, Simon Shannon. The time sheet is on the board at the club and time slots are filling quickly. With recent announcements re covid restrictions in the state, members should expect some e-mails from the club with information as to what can and can’t happen. Hopefully, the day will go ahead.
