It was another full weekend of golf competition at Stanthorpe with Saturday’s stroke round to finalise the Pike Trophies and find a winner for the Nuffield Cup. Sunday’s event was the club’s mixed foursomes championships with the winners adding their names to the honour list.

For the men’s section for the Pike Trophy and a number of players in contention after the second round, it was Scott Constable who had a very good round of 72 off the stick and nett 71 to claim the men’s Trophy. In the ladies event, Christine Hood had another good round and claimed the ladies’ Pike Trophy. Congratulations are in order to both players who now have added their names to the list of winners.

In the day’s event, a stroke round, it was again Scott Constable who won the day and added his name onto the Nuffield Cup and take top prize for the event, although he needed the countback to separate him from Greg Fraser who also returned a nett 71. Greg settled for runner up on the day. The ladies event was also won by Christine Hood who had the lowest nett round of 73 for the ladies. Lisa Stuart collected runner up with a score of nett 78.

The day’s stroke event and the Nuffield Cup was sponsored by club member, Mark McCosker and the club thanks Mark for the day.

The mixed foursomes championships played on Sunday over 27 holes of golf is a good test of golf and one where the mixed teams need to complement each others play. Often players find themselves in positions they would not usually encounter. Combining better than the rest was the team of Matt and Nikki Waterworth to win the 2022 mixed foursomes and add their names to the list of winners. Next best was the team of David Reeves and Racheal Hendry for runner up. In the nett event, Keith and Helen Jones came out on top, a half stroke ahead of Mark Hendry and Neta Thouard.

Sponsor for the mixed foursomes championships was the Golf Club.

There is always something of interest which comes out of the mixed event, this year it was an error with some teams playing from the wrong area. Plenty of discussion surrounded the situation and many different interpretations of the rules unsued. It was however settled in the end but disappointing for the teams involved.

Next Saturday id the April monthly medal and putting competition and another chance for players to qualify for the Medal of Medallists later in the year. The day’s stroke event will be sponsored by club member, Richard Reardon and tee off from 11.0 am. The time sheet is on the board.
