Stanthorpe golfers played their end of month 4BBB stableford last Saturday (25 Mar) under some ominous looking clouds overhead. Luckily, the lightning and rain came very late allowing the competition to finish. The day was sponsored by club members, John Green and Brendan McMillan and we thank them for the trophies on the day.
With four teams returning the best score, 43 points on the day, the count back was in overdrive to find the winners. Lucky for Keith and Helen Jones who had the best back nine to claim the prize. Both players shared the scoring over the eighteen holes and the only washed hole was replaced by a very good par at 6 which yielded 4 points for Helen on that hole.
Of the rest, Ron Batterham and Christine Hood managed to hold onto second place, again with a better back nine than the others. In third place was the team of Ivan Juriss and Eric Ree leaving the remaining team of Mark and Racheal Hendry to settle for the run down on the day.
Pin shots and pro-pins were doubles and singles, Brendan Barker taking two pins, 12 and 17, Nikki Waterworth taking two ladies’ pins, 12 and 17. Filomena Silver claimed the ladies’ pin at three, again, and Matt Waterworth the remaining men’s pin at 3. Matt Burgess held two pro-pins, 1/10 and 9/18 with 5/14 going to Keith Jones.
Also featuring in the run down were Matt and Nikki Waterworth, Santo Cavallaro and Todd Sutherland and Ivan Juriss and Len Leigh.
An upcoming event for Sunday 2 April is the Sporters comp, the rescheduled Maureen Bates Memorial Day, a 2 person ambrose over nine holes. The day is sponsored by Rex Bates and competition on Sunday morning with a shot gun start at 9.00 am. A time sheet is available at the club for players to nominate.
Next Saturday, April 1. is the monthly medal and putting competition, another chance to qualify for the Medal of Medallists in November. Sponsor for the day is club member, Richard Reardon. Time sheet for the day is also on the board at the club.
