Stanthorpe golfers played their end of month team’s event last Saturday, this time it was Canadian foursomes with the Howard and Sons cups on offer. The event has been played now for many years and the club thanks the Howard family for continuing in sponsoring the day, in particular Terry, Mal and Freddie Howard.

A week ago, Brendan Barker was successful in taking out the club’s championships with his win in the stroke event. This time, he and playing partner, Danny Folkers returned the best nett score to add their names to the cups.

In second place was the team of Mick O’Brien and Nat Marano who were a fraction of a point away. Closely following was the team of Barry Hughes and Aaron Simmers who collected the run down prize.

The ladies played the same event with their sponsor being club member, Mei Bell. Marie Cook followed the pattern of winning the ladies championship last week and this week collected top prize after she and partner Lorraine Evans had the best score. In second place was the team of Mei Bell and Lisa Stuart.

Men’s pins went to Santo Cavallaro at 3 and Brendan Barker collected the rest at 12 and 17. Ladies pin at 3 was unclaimed and Mei Bell held the other two at 12 and 17.

No takers for the pro-pin at 1/10, Danny Folkers successful at 5/14 and Alan Kerr best at 9/18.

Members should know that the time sheets for he Open carnival in October are now available with a four ball on the first day followed by a single event the next day. Usually the second day fills up very quickly so intending players should nominate as soon as possible to get a preferred time.

Next Saturday is the October monthly medal and putting competition, an individual sroke event sponsored by club member, Michael Lane. The time sheet for the day is on the board at the club. Hopefully the course continues to dry out somewhat and be a bit drier underfoot.
